Liquid zinc, applied as a foliar spray, works on a completely different timeline: it's absorbed through the leaf within hours to days, making it the tool of choice when a crop is already showing deficiency symptoms and there isn't time to wait for a soil application to take effect.
The two aren't competing options so much as complementary tools — granular zinc sulphate like Commander (33% Zn) for planned, whole-field correction at sowing, and liquid zinc like Scotch (10% Zn) as a fast, targeted rescue treatment when symptoms appear mid-season.
Fields with a long history of zinc deficiency, such as rice paddies prone to Hudda disease, generally benefit most from committing to a consistent granular program every season rather than relying on liquid zinc as a repeated annual fix.
