Calcium Polysulfide 22%: Liquid Sulfur for Alkaline Soil Correction
Much of Pakistan's cultivated land sits on alkaline to calcareous soils, where high pH reduces the availability of zinc, iron, manganese, and phosphorus even when those nutrients are present in adequate total quantity — a soil chemistry problem that fertilizer alone doesn't fully solve.
Calcium polysulfide, applied as a 22% liquid sulfur product, works by releasing sulfur that oxidizes in the soil over time, gradually lowering soil pH and improving the availability of nutrients that are otherwise locked up in high-pH conditions.
Because the pH-lowering effect builds up over repeated applications rather than happening instantly, calcium polysulfide is best used as a longer-term soil improvement strategy on fields with a persistent history of high pH and poor micronutrient response, rather than a quick fix for an already-visible deficiency.
It's commonly applied alongside — not instead of — a regular fertilizer and micronutrient program; improving soil pH increases how efficiently nutrients like zinc sulphate are taken up, making the two approaches complementary on problem soils.
